Potulný Dělník 2008

Do you know the saying: "What does not kill you makes you stronger"?

Because I have very wild period of my life nowadays when I am trying to watch the world in different views, I have decided to visit this festival of poetry in Brno. It is already 8th volume!

I have only once visited such a crazy action as a poetry evening is and I have nearly no memories of it. I hope it will be stronger feeling now and thinking of the saying above I am looking forward to this festival because I am quite sure it will not kill me ;-)Jim Čert and Záviš are the only performers I know on this three-day festival... But you will see poets and performers such a Jé Jé Neduha, Pepa Klíč, Jiří Konvrzek & band, Jakub Čermák, J.K. Krchovský, Dáša Vokatá, Pepíček Čečil, Pavel Kolmačka, Pavel Zajíček & friends, Miroslav Fišmeister! ;-)

Last week I took part in a festival of documentary films Jeden Svět 2008 and the documents I have watched helped me to understand better problems which I know from TV but cannot imagine how it is really (Palestina & Izrael war, Guinea & poverty, Northern Korea & Kim Čong-il dictatorship, Barma & civil war)...

I wish to finish Potulný Dělník festival with this sort of feelings and better understanding to the poets.

Madam - In Case Of Emergency

"... beautiful, twisted, confessional late-night conversations soaked in bar-fly brilliance... Dark, maudlin widescreen vignettes are what make up the album "In Case Of Emergency". An atmospheric filmic quality resides on this extraordinary debut. Think Portishead, Velvet Underground, Nick Cave, Townes Van Zandt. Madam conjure a magical and dangerous world of lost highways, dying love, whiskey-soaked mistakes and cigarette-smoke philosophy." When Things Explode, February 26, 2008

I have posted the same video some time before and because I fell in love with her voice I was really looking forward to hearing her whole album.

Today I have found a link to this new album In Case Of Emergency (2008)! You can taste her songs here and than buy a record or visit her concert. I will do it definitely... ;-)

Pissing In Hergetova Cihelna (Brickworks) by David Černý

Everybody who knows
David Černý knows that it is a controversial artist with wise ideas. His artworks such as a pink Soviet tank that served as a war memorial in central Prague, an image of Saddam Hussein in a tank of formaldehyde, "Tower Babies"- a serie of crawling infants attached to Žižkov Television Tower, Statue of St. Wenceslas riding a dead horse etc.

When I was in Kafka museum in Prag I was amused by another Černý's artwork which is on a Hergetova Cihelna's backyard called Piss. It is a statue of two men who are pissing into a Czech Republic shaped pool. They are made of cuprum and their hips are moving right from left while their penises are moving down from top. (see a video here)

The most funny thing is that if you write an sms on a number written near the statue the men write your text by their penises in the water.

Prague Galleries

I have spent few days in Prag recently and I have discovered some interesting art expressions there:

Alexandr Onishenko - New Impressionism

Onishenko is one of the most successful artists in the Czech Republic who born in Ukraine and began his career as one of the sellers alongside the Charles Bridge. He was discovered in the other countries too so he exhibited his paintings all over there. And after that he has opened his own gallery in Prag. The gallery is called Galerie Jakubská.

I was impressed by some of his pieces, but there is no one from my favorite pictures on the internet unfortunately. His paintings are peaceful and full of colour, he can catch the light and movings so that you can feel the wind blowing or hear the sea rustle.

There you can find some examples of his paintings in a book about him and on his pages.

D-ART Gallery

This gallery hosts especialy Russian painters. The first time when I walked round about this gallery I thought that it is some other Onishenko's gallery because the paintings outside were in the same style (impressionism) and topic (roofs of buildings). I was said that this Russian painter (whose name I don't remember) has cooperated with Onishenko. There were big autumn forest paintings with a life-giving sunlight and another moments from nature inside the gallery from the same autor. Such a pity I don't have 600 EUR left!

There was one another painter who took my attention - Sergey Yatnov.

He is 50, born in Russia and living in Prag for 17 years. His style is quite unusual and sometimes his pictures looks like from a Polock's successor. There are many artworks of this man on the internet so enjoy watching them here and here.

Galerie PERON

This is a modern art gallery. It was a bit difficult to choose an artwork I like in this gallery. But I know that everything what is able to captivate you even in the negative way is art. Art is a way how to point to some problem and an oportunity to show your opinion. In PERON I have realized this strongly. I will remember a name Mžyk whose paintings were in a very characteristic style so that you can recognise them easily but I
really don't like them.

Check the gallery stuff here.

If you are interested in a lithography and other printing methods I recommend you names as Oldřich Kulhánek, Tomáš Hřivnáč, Jaroslav Šerých...

Holidays In Risoul 1850

I have got some photos for you because I want to show you how fantastic holidays I had this January. You know, I was on mountains in winter so far away from home for the first time in my life so I was enjoying every second like a small child.

Parking for helicoptera (Mecoptera) here!

I was in Risoul in French Alps with my roommate and other people I have not seen before. We lived in a small French apartment (3 girls + 3 boys). At the beggining I was absolute skiing beginner but after everyday 6 hours on skies I finished the holidays as a skier with his own style...

We had a big luck that it was snowing three days before our arrival so that we had a fresh snow and nice slopes without stones or grass nearly whole week. The sun was shinnig all the time exept for one day when it was a bit foggy.

So let me introduce Risoul, a small tourist village in southern France near Italian and Swiss borders

This "white street" is the beginning of your everyday ski-journey if you ski in Risoul. Here start chair-lifts on hills. An eight-seats-chair-lift was our favorit to get on a hill we used to visit every day as the first one:

A friend of mine is awaiting you there with open arms ;-)

... But be careful when you want to visit the highest hill in Foret Blanche (=Risoul+Vars) - Pic De Chabrieres (2750 m), because there is a monster with a red eye awaiting you with open mouth!:

The green circle is a window of our apartment...

... and this is a night view from the window -
full moon made me crazy crazy that night.

This (a bit artistic photo of a) slope on the left with the "moleholes" was my second ride in Alps. My friend just ordered to go this way so I followed her. Unfortunately she didnt know it is so dificult and I rolled the hill down and everybody was really amused. Hehehe

This picture shows our favorit slope. Of course it wasnt so flat! It is called Olympic sup. (superior) but we called it Olympic seschup

I do like this composition...

Here comes Vars... and a red slope which was veeeeeeeery long and I liked it

I love the color of the sky...

Vars & Risoul 1850 (1605m - 2750m)

I want to point on this place because I was there whole last week and I have spent a wonderful time there. [Read above ;-)]

Vars a Risoul , the Cottic Alps, France (see map)

The red circle is a residence I was accomodated

The modern ski resort of Risoul (1850 m above sea-level) is together with the neighbouring Vars (1650 m above sea-level) a part of La Foret Blanche (the White Forest) ski region. Thanks to its high elevation top, perfectly situated slopes or accomodation possibilities, it is justly one of the most popular ski resorts in the French Alps.

It can boast about one of the largest snowboard parks - Surfland - a 12 km long area of a descent of 500 m. There is a total number of 115 runs out of which the most interesting are: two (officially classified) slalom runs, La Coni (very difficult black run with an incline up to 43%) and of course a run for the flying kilometre with the record of 244 km/hour (for extra fee available for public).

Although Risoul is not very typical family-orientated resort, you can find lots of easy runs suitable for children in its close proximity. 26 km of cross-country tracks or aprés ski offer of 30 km of suggested hiking or snowshoe walking trails are worth mentioning as well. Happy New Year!!!

New year has begun and a nearly everybody has the feeling he should summarize the last year... There are many music blogs where u can find a lot of different opinions about what was the best song, video, band or concert last year as well u can learn what music is the worst and you shouldn't spend your time with listening to it. There were many publicistic summaries in media about politics and national costings in the end of the old year etc.

These reports made me to think about my own old year and I have realized that I have a bit different sense of sorting things. Probably I am able to say what was the best or worse for me last year but it is nonsense to view it all only black and white because everything depends on everything. I do not think that man should do the same as media or music servers. Why we should divide our lifes into single years? Usualy there are differently long periods in our lifes which have an influence on our other living and which were influenced by a previous life.

For example I sort out my memories acording to a music I had listened to in exact period. Because with a different music come different people and stories. When I moved from home I have had new activities or when I have a relation I live in another way than I am alone... There are many ways how to sort out your memories and moral lessons.

The main thing I wanted to say is that each person should live his own life acording to his own lifeclocks. After each end start sth new and summarize befor the new beggining and do not be affected by a calendar... Because if you point only on some things after a long time you lose the other important tininess from the story...

I hope it is a bit understandable because I don't have the gift to explain my thoughts properly...

David E. Sugar - Just Like Heaven

This guy got me some time ago with a cover of a The Cure song "Just Like Heaven". It is shaky shaky (as one friend of mine would say) and happy-mood-giving song. You should hear it!...

You can download it here with the other remixes and then check his MySpace with more songs and information...

Big Face - I Wanna Be A Style Crusader

... It is a big pity that this video wasnt awarded by Pitchfork like one of the Top 50 Music Videos Of 2007... I like it because it is well done and synchronized with a good music... Unfortunately there are some videos which are not so interesting on the Pitchfork list

This music video, by Louis Chang, took 9 days to film and features stop motion animation using 700 boxes with images of the band members and their instruments printed on them. (Last.fm
